Details & Origin

This handbag is made of silk fabric, covered with plum blossoms patterns on one side and bamboo leaves on the other side. The fabric is either an antique obi that has been upcycled or a fabric that is produced especially for accessories by obi makers. Because there wasn’t any tag or brand on it, it is difficult to know which one is the correct statement. However, it is made of silk for sure, woven together with metallic slats, into a very fine jacquard. The motifs are beautifully detailed which is a sign of the high quality of this fabric, and the metallic threads bring a subtle shine to it.

This handbag type is usually worn with formal kimono outfits, but its timeless beauty can be appreciated with many other styles.

The inside is made of plain off-white satin, with 2 small inner pockets.

The bag opens and closes with a clasp. The sides are made of fake leather with a varnish finish.

Condition

Used, very good condition. The main part (silk fabric), the inside and the metallic clasp are all in perfect condition. On the sides, you can see small scratches due to use (see photos 9 and 10) and the handle is scratched on the inner part which doesn’t show at all when the bag is worn (you can see it by zooming on the handle on the first and second photos).
