Vintage silk hand pouch - Momiji

US$65.00

Vintage item

Details & Origin

This handbag is made of silk fabric, covered with Momiji leaves patterns. The fabric is either an antique obi that has been upcycled or a fabric that is produced especially for accessories by obi makers. Because there wasn’t any tag or brand on it, it is difficult to know which one is the correct statement. However, it is made of silk for sure, woven together with metallic slats, into a very fine jacquard. The motifs are beautifully detailed which is a sign of the high quality of this fabric, and the metallic threads bring a subtle shine to it.

This handbag type is usually worn with formal kimono outfits, but its timeless beauty can be appreciated with many other styles.

The inside is made of plain off-white satin, with 2 small inner pockets.

The bag opens and closes with a chiselled metallic clasp.

Condition

Used, correct conditions. The bag shows discreet signs of use but there is no noticeable damage. A few stains on the inside and the metallic clasp frame is slightly oxidized.
