Mikan original bumbag, made of vintage obi silk and new materials. Light, sturdy & water-resistant.
The motifs represented differ on each side. The right side is covered with red-crowned cranes flying over a water stream. If you look closely, their beaks are woven with gold threads and shine like gold needles in some photos.
The left side is covered with an imaginary flower pattern called kamon (華文). It is a stylised rosette inspired by ancient imports into Japan during the Nara and Heian periods, heavily influenced by traditional Chinese Karahana. The flowers are nested within a geometric pattern called shokkomon: octagons and squares connected and spread out.
