This fabric depicts a classic Heian-period court scene, a very popular motif in high-end obi weaving. The Ox-drawn carriage (Gosho-guruma) and the aristocrats or courtiers represented here are typical elements when it comes to representing the aristocratic lifestyle of the Heian court, the same world you see in The Tale of Genji.
