This pair of geta is coated with traditional lacquer using a specific technique called kara-Nuri. This unique technique is characterized by the speckled spots creating a multicoloured marble effect. Kara-Nuri is the most popular style of a wider craft called Tsugaru-Nuri, originating from Aomori prefecture. You can read this article if you wish to know more about it.
