This fabric roll, tan-mono in Japanese, is made up of 12 m, or the amount needed for a tailor-made kimono.

Details & origin

Kyo-yuzen (京友禅) is a technique of painting dye directly onto silk, using free hand, stencils and resist paste made of rice. It is famous for its vivid colours and its detailed motifs.

The motif presents a wide variety of flowers and birds, a very colourful garden, painted on a blood-orange background. The base textile is woven with a textured pattern as well: you can see waves all over the fabrics. .

Condition

Great condition. The fabric has no holes or wears because it hasn’t been used. Though I haven’t noticed any, it may have some small stains due to the years spent in a closet.

Made in Japan. Sourced in Miyazaki prefecture.
