The original obi
Imagine you are in Japan in autumn, somewhere is the countryside, walking by a river in a small town and it’s golden hour. The sun is about to set and is shining of a warm gold light behind the trees, the rays are very bright but notdazzling. It is as if you were in a dream. The next minute, the atmosphere changes and the warm light turns to a colder colour, maybe purple, as the the sun disappears slowly behind the mountains.
This is the story I imagine when I see this motif. You can see that the colours look different on each photo, and if you are wondering which one is the more realistically representing this obi, they both are. The light plays on the colour and the shimmer of the this silk woven fabric light the late afternoon sunlight in the summer. A bag made out of this fabric will always look a little different depending on the place and time of day you will wear it.
