Mikan original bumbag, made of vintage obi silk and new materials. Light, sturdy & water-resistant.

The motif represents a garden with chrysanthemums, irises, long grass dancing in the wind, and water flowing (very thin white lines).

The original obi is visible below. You can see that I purposely selected the garden and not the famous Golden Pavilion. I wanted to bring attention to the surrounding motifs, rather than the main elements, and show how delicate and detailed these motifs are, even though they are not meant to be the centre of attention. But I thought, for once, they should! And they can be appreciated independently for their own beauty.

The original Obi

The Golden Pavilion

Kinkakuji, Kyoto’s famous Golden Pavilion, sits in a lush garden in the hot summer. The irises are in bloom in the pond, and the clover, the chrysanthemums, and the bell flowers are blooming in the garden. In reality, all these flowers bloom at different times of summer, but gathered on this obi, they make for an imaginary summer scenery.
