Mikan original creation.

This bag combines antique Japanese textiles and new materials. It is handcrafted in my studio in Kyoto.

Features

Sturdy and lightweight, this bumbag keeps your belongings within easy reach when your hands are busy.

The front of the bag is made with antique obi silk and is covered with a protective treatment to help the silk live longer. The back is made in a lightweight and resistant 3D mesh. The adjustable belt allows you to wear it around your waist/hips or across your chest.

It is roomy and the soft back fabric allows the bag to adapt to your body shape when not too full. When you need to pack more, a small water bottle, a book etc. it expands to make more space.

Motif and fabric details

This delicate motif is quite enigmatic to me. It could represent waves or scales, but it could also be a very stylised representation of pampa grass, susuki in Japanese. This tight-woven fabric is of a rare quality. The golden lines of the motif appear with texture on top of the silver background and pastel green and light peach hues. As the light plays on the threads, the silver and gold threads seem to blend with each other.
