Bumbag - Okinawa Matte Silver
Mikan original creation.
This bumbag is a combination of antique Japanese textiles and new materials. It is handcrafted in my studio in Kyoto.
Details
The main fabric comes from an antique obi and is made of silk. The fabric has been painted over with a silver and black layer, giving the bag a unique matte finish.
The motif represents a typical Japanese countryside scene: a house behind its bamboo gate. In the garden, a hut with a straw roof and a stream around which grow irises, pines, maple trees, plum trees, and chrysanthemums. If you are curious to learn more about this fabric, you can read more about it on this link.
The back of the bag is made in a lightweight 3D mesh which allows the bag to take minimum space when not full, and perfectly fit against your body. The adjustable strap allows you to wear it either on your waist/hips or across your chest.
