Plum blossoms

fuschia & silver

Motif

Ume, the plum flower, is associated with winter flowers. But it wasn’t always this way, in fact long before the Sakura, the cherry blossoms, became the most popular, Japanese people used to celebrate the arrival of spring when the plum trees were in bloom. The term plum flowers (which can also designate the apricot flowers) are the first to bloom at the end of winter, around February, and announces the soon arrival of spring. They are strong enough to resist the cold temperature and the frost of the season, they last longer than the cherry blossoms, and they are much more fragrant.

Textile

The flowers motif is woven with a silver lamé thread and the background is made of plain fuschia silk which evoques the real colour of the plossoms.
