Peonies & paper fan

Motif

This obi represents paper fans decorated with peonies, chrysanthemums and lily of the valley.

The background, a salmon pink silk, is sprinkled with gold flakes. I believe they evoke the gold flakes often used to decorte dancing fan, like the one on this photo below, a vintage treasure from my collection a few years ago.

It is a very colourful piece to be worn during spring. The paper fans can evoque the upcoming heat or the traditional dances of Bon Odori, a festival celebrated in May with paper fan dancing.

This obi is woven jacquard silk and lamé gold threads. Due to its high quality, the details of the pattern are very sharp and textured.

Framing

When ordering a bumbag, you can choose to have either the vibrant red peony or the more discreet chrysanthemum featured on the bag. For larger bags, all elements of the motif will appear.
