The Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji
Or, at least, nine of them. This Obi features the famous woodblock prints of Mount Fuji by Hokusai. It is an interpretation, so even if the views appear quite like the real artworks, the colours and scale have been modified in order to be displayed on the obi.
The person who designed this obi chose to represent the famous views on painted paper fan leaves called senmen. The fans are scattered on the obi and arranged with gold clouds.
South Wind, Clear Sky , also known as Red Fuji, is probably the most famous amongst the thirty six views.
Framing
When ordering a bag, you can choose to have Red Fuji showcased on it, or to focus on the blue tones of the other images. For large bags, all elements of the motif will appear.

The motif represents woodblock prints by Hokusai (1760-1849), depicting Mount Fuji in different situations. The famous series is called the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.

If you are visiting Kyoto and would like to spend some time discovering these fabrics in person, you are welcome to visit my studio.
Together, we will design your bag from A to Z. You will choose your favourite obi and even cut the fabric yourself, selecting the exact part of the motif you love most.
I will then carefully sew and finish your bag and ship it to you once it is complete.
