Ajisai

Motif

Ajisai, hydrangeas in Japanese, is the star of the rainy season. At this time of the year they appear in the streets and gardens as balls of light contrasting with the grey weather. Their small flowers resembling constellations are a great source on inspiration for kimono motifs as well as wagashi confectionary.

This summer obi represents white hydrangeas and a bamboo fence bringing some geometric lines in the back.

TEXTILE

The fabric is made of pink and white silk woven with silver lamé. Since it is a summer obi, the silk is woven in a way that it is slightly see-through so we can see the silver threads in the background.

In-person workshop in Kyoto

If you are visiting Kyoto and would like to spend some time discovering these fabrics in person, you are welcome to visit my studio.

Together, we will design your bag from A to Z. You will choose your favourite obi and even cut the fabric yourself, selecting the exact part of the motif you love most.

I will then carefully sew and finish your bag and ship it to you once it is complete.

→ Book a studio visit and experience the fabrics with your own eyes
